Your puppy needs to be fed 3-4 times a day, but after 6 months this can be reduced to two meals a day. When feeding our pate together with a dry food, halve the recommended daily feed amounts. Once can is opened, cover and store in the refrigerator, use within 24 hours (at room temperature). The above is a guide only as an individual dog’s requirements will vary depending on activity level, age and environment. Always provide plentiful fresh, clean water.
Wet pet food is produced by a very different process to dry food. Generally Meat by-products, vegetables, cereals, minerals, and fats are mixed with some water and gelling ingredients, and then it is all emulsified to produce a sort of paste. It is then partially cooked in a steam tunnel to make it more solid, and is sliced with knifes into cubes. The product then looks like a real meat piece and is placed in a can or alutray, and maybe filled with jelly or gravy, and afterwards sealed and cooked in a pressure cooker for around 2 hours to sterilise it. Due to these processing conditions it is harder to produce completely balanced wet food and a supplement is often necessary. It is very important to look for this on the packaging.
There are many different qualities of wet food sold today in Turkey but unfortunately many of are very poor, and are made with very small amounts of meat by-products and 80-85% water content, with a lot of added sugar. Also people should understand that in Europe if a producer claims chicken with a percentage that means that it can be chicken by products or chicken meal.
Nutritionally complete wet and dry foods are equally suitable for dogs, and sometimes a pet will prefer one or the other. When feeding dry food it is very important to keep a bowl of fresh, clean water nearby, since they cannot obtain sufficient water from the food alone.
Wet and dry food can be mixed freely together if they are both nutritionally complete, or if the combination produced a nutritionally complete food however, the quantities of each must be controlled to ensure that over-feeding is avoided. If one of the foods is not nutritionally complete care should be taken, and the incomplete (or complementary) food should not represent more than 10% of the overall diet, otherwise it can significantly dilute the nutrient intake.
Our Bonacibo canned petfood is formulated to meet all nutritional needs of dogs of all breeds.
